I have been a Mom for almost 3 years now, a professional photographer for almost 10 years. Taking picture of kids is HARD. Its a finite amount of time that they rabidly change and you so desperatly want to hold on to these moments. Can you afford to take them to a professional photographer every month or when “that moment happens” NO. so how do you do it, How do you take cute photos of your kids.
What I have learned taking pictures of my own kids is you need to set up the scene. Bears, toys, presents, pumpkins anything you would like to make it a magical moment. You know when your kids are having a good day, good mood, its at the perfect time.
The Setup is the time that takes the longest time.
If its inside make sure to have window lighting.
If your window is on wall place your setup on the wall opposite of where the light is hitting.
Why you may say
Light is great but too much of a good thing can make it hard.
Setup the outfit
The outfits that you think you will want (Be willing to be flexible because your kids may hate the outfit)
If its with a hat and they don’t like the hat, Don’t put it on.
The whole reason for the shoot is to capture your kids personality in a fun way.
If you have a DSLR camera – shoot above 125 shutter because kids are fast, ideally you will want it higher but lets be honest sometimes being inside its not in that cards.
Don’t simply take 3 shots take loads even if they aren’t looking your way, you would be surprised if you just simply interact with them, make them laugh… and just run around with them you get some sweet shots.
The results is a 10 min max photoshoot and priceless photos
It doesn’t need to be complicated – sometimes the best shots happen because you pinned them on the floor and tickled them
Remember to just click…. you may take 150 shots and like 4 of them. But those 4 are awesome. Try it out.
If you have a question let me know.
